Lone Star Street Rod Association car show set for June 10-12

The Lone Star Street Rod Association 47th annual State-Run and car show will be held June 10-12 at Granbury's Hewlett Park, and it's a chance for car enthusiasts to see some of the top hot rods from across the state.

This year's show in Granbury is being featured on the nationwide automotive podcast, In Wheel Time, with hosts Don Armstrong, Mike Marrs and Konrad DeLong expected to broadcast their Saturday morning show on location at Hewlett Park.

Armstrong was recently inducted into the Texas Broadcast Hall of Fame in addition to being a seasoned automotive writer. Since high school, he's been involved in the automotive world when he began working at a local Chevrolet dealership.

Marrs is well known as a member of Texas Auto Writers Association, where he served as president for three years.

The "newest" cars in the LSSRA date back to 1974 (the year the association began), and there is a wide range of vehicles that take part each year.

According to Gary Henry, editor of the association's Street Lights newsletter, this year's show is expected to draw up to 350 cars, with the preregistration running slightly ahead of last year's show.

"The show is primarily for the Lone Star Street Rod Association members to have an annual event for everybody to get together and catch up on what's been going on," Henry said. "People come from all over the state to attend the show. As far as the general public, it's a great opportunity to look at some stunning, restored cars and some professionally built vehicles."

The vehicles have hundreds of hours of work put onto them, and there will be cars that have the potential of reaching $100,000 in value. The LSSRA has come a long way from its original 16 members.

Granbury has been the association's choice for a car show for several years now, and after having gone to shows for the past 50 years, Henry explains why his group is more than satisfied.

"I can't think of a better venue, having gone to car shows and events for the last 50 years. It is a spectacular venue (Hewlett Park), and on top of that, the city of Granbury has just bent over backward trying to accommodate the events and the people that come to the city," Henry said. "I have nothing but excellent reviews from people who have come. They love the venue. They love the service that they get at the hotels and the restaurants and some of the other attractions that they have an opportunity to attend."

Admission to the show is free, and the best parking is across the street at the Granbury Resort Conference Center, located at 621 E. Pearl Street. The show’s dates and times are Friday, June 10, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 12, 9-10 a.m.
