Matthew James Comeau, 54, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully Sept. 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with heart disease. A passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Star Wars, Matthew was affectionately known as "Uncle Daddy" to those who knew him. He dedicated his life to his family, particularly in raising the younger children of his late sister, Sarah, alongside his niece Olivia and her partner, Gregory Williams.

Born Aug. 9, 1971, in Fort Worth, Texas, Matthew was the fifth of six children born to Maurice and Gail Comeau. As a child, he lived in Everman and spent his college years living in Granbury with his family. Matthew cherished his job and the friendships he formed during his long and distinguished career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Matthew graduated from Everman High School in 1991 and attended Tarrant County Junior College before transferring to the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated in 2002. His more than 20 years of service for the state of Texas began as a Texas Works Advisor at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. He then continued his career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he held various positions, including parole officer, unit supervisor, and internal reviewer.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Matthew was a skilled woodworker, known among his friends for his beautifully crafted pens.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Comeau; his mother, Gail Comeau; his brothers Stephen Comeau and Michael Comeau and his wife, Sarah Ruth Comeau; his sisters Geraldine Comeau and Sarah Ann Woods; and his nephew Kenneth Stewart.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Vinson, her husband, Gary Vinson, and their son, Nick Vinson. He is also survived by his uncle, Stan Dunn; his nieces, Olivia Comeau, Katie Woods, and Lila Woods; and niece Mary Stewart: his nephews, Michael Comeau, James Stewart, and his wife, Kacy, and Anthony Comeau. Additionally, he is survived by his niece, Jessica Comeau, her mother, and his sister-in-law, Rhonda Kay Comeau, along with her children, Ryan Anzaldua, Justin Wright, Lauren Wright Desormeaux, Brittany Pino and Brent Blinka. Matthew is also survived by many more nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A joyous celebration of Matthew’s life will take place from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Riley Stevens VFW Memorial Post 7835, located at 3670 W US Hwy 377, Granbury, Texas 76048. In place of flowers, donations to the family would be greatly appreciated.
