Officers honored in ceremonies at Granbury City Hall

Two presentations in recognition of law enforcement took place during this week’s regular meeting of the Granbury City Council.

The council meeting was held Wednesday night instead of Tuesday night because of the Fourth of July holiday.

Mayor Jim Jarratt read a proclamation in recognition of Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day. Members of the Friends of Memorial Lane board stood next to him as he read the proclamation detailing that Gov. Greg Abbott has designated July 7 as a day honor Texas law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The date of July 7 was chosen by the governor because on July 7, 2016, five Dallas police officers were killed in an ambush-style attack. It was the deadliest assault on U.S. law enforcement since the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001.

Jarratt announced that a ceremony to honor Texas fallen officers would take place at Memorial Lane at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 7, with Mayor Pro Tem Trish Burwell scheduled as the speaker.

“We can’t say thank you enough and we can’t say it too often,” he said of those who protect and serve.

Following the reading of the proclamation, the Friends of Memorial Lane presented a $500 check to the city for the purchase of protective gear for the Granbury Police Department.
