PHOTO GALLERY: Fallen Hero Memorial Dedication

Posted

Gold Star families were honored guests at the official dedication of the recently completed Hood County Fallen Veterans Memorial on May 29, Memorial Day. In conjunction with the HGMA Memorial Day program at the city stage on Bridge Street, the dedication ceremony began at the city stage on Bridge Street, followed by a bagpiper-led procession of hundreds of attendees, with many family members of the fallen taking the lead to the southwest corner of the Hood County Courthouse lawn. Those named on this memorial — built on donations by the community and all who no longer wanted to see them forgotten — are the war heroes of Hood County. They will be those born or raised in Hood County, Killed in Action (KIA), or Missing in Action (MIA) with war periods dating back to the Spanish-American War of 1898. A QR code is available, which allows access to each hero's biography on the Hood County Fallen Veterans website.
