P&Z's Vale files for council seat

Steven Vale, a member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, filed Friday afternoon for the Place 5 seat on the Granbury City Council that has been vacated by Tony Mobly.

Mobly relinquished the seat to run for mayor in a special election set for Tuesday, June 29 that was called due to the resignation of Mayor Nin Hulett. The Place 5 seat will be added to that ballot.

Vale retired from Kraft Foods after 34 years as director of sales planning in various departments.

The retiree moved to Granbury with his wife Lori in December 2013 and began working part-time as a ramp attendant at the city-owned Granbury Regional Airport in 2014.

“As a private pilot, this was the perfect fit for me and a way to start connecting with our community,” Vale stated. “We are the welcoming point for our many guests coming into Granbury by air. I enjoy greeting visitors and giving them directions to hotels, shopping and restaurants in our beautiful community.”

The City Council recently appointed Vale to serve a second term on the P&Z. He has also served as president, secretary and treasurer of his homeowners association and is a member of its architectural committee.

Vale and his wife of 32 years are members of Stonewater Church and volunteers at Forward Training Center of Hood County. They have two grown sons.

Vale said that he filed for the council seat because he has a desire to serve.

“My wife and I are very involved in our neighborhood, our church and our community,” he stated. “The council position gives me an opportunity to further support our community and the citizens of Granbury.”

The filing period for the special election ends at 5 p.m. Thursday (May 20).

According to City Manager Chris Coffman, at this point if any other council members resign to run for a mayor, a second special election will have to be called.
