Posted

SPORTS ROUNDUP

The Tolar Rattlers continued one of the best football seasons in team history Friday with a 57-0 demolishing win at Bangs to clinch a postseason berth. The victory gave 8-0 Tolar — now ranked seventh in the state — sole possession of first place in District 5-2A Division I, at 4-0.

Peyton Brown ran for 241 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries for the Rattlers. For the season he now has 1,593 yards and 25 TDs.

Quarterback Isaac Blessing threw for 109 yards and a TD while rushing for 68 yards and another score. All four of his completions went to Wyatt Jones.

Keaton Morrison led the defense with nine tackles, while Clayton Stembridge and Brock Owens each had eight. Owens also had three tackles for a loss with a quarterback sack.

In all, the Rattlers had a dozen tackles for a loss, led by Kasyn Burdette with four. Luke Willmon and Mason Berry each had two and Ty McClure had one. Berry also had a sack.

Morrison intercepted a Bangs pass, while Blessing, Drake Owens and Bryce Brown recovered a fumble.

The Rattlers will be home to host Goldthwaite (0-8, 0-4) Friday at 7 p.m. A win would secure a district championship on Senior Night.

“Our defense has played well all year and it was nice for those guys to finally get the shutout,” Tolar head coach Jeremy Mullins said. “This is a big week for us. For 15 guys it's their last time to take the field here at the Snake Farm and it's an opportunity to play for a district title, something that has not been done since 2009.”
