A 21-year-old man died late Saturday (June 4) night in a local hospital after he had “had jumped off a dock and had not come back up,” in Lake Granbury near the Laguna Tres subdivision just north of the Granbury city limits, according to Brazos River Authority Public Information Officer Judi Pierce. She told the Hood County News by email that the man, Adin Heikkinen of Keller was pronounced dead at about 10:30 p.m.

Hood County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Johnny Rose stated that an emergency call came into 911 dispatch at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, reporting a 21-year-old man was unresponsive.

BRA rangers were called about “a possible drowning” near Laguna Tres, Pierce reported, noting that the report states that the man “had been swimming prior to the event without any issue. He was located and taken to a local hospital where, we are told, he was declared dead around 10:30. He was not wearing a life jacket.”

Two members of the North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department, along with a Hood County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Daniel Martin, pulled the man out of the water. After the victim was intubated, CPR was attempted, according to North Hood Assistant Fire Chief Terry Worcester.

“You’re always hopeful, in any CPR case, but very few are successful,” Worcester told the HCN, noting that several other people who appeared to be approximately the age of the victim were present at the scene when they arrived.

The victim was found in the water “about 10 or 12 feet” from the dock, Worcester said, and the water was “approximately eight or nine feet deep.”

Pierce added, “It is our understanding that an inquest will be done,” by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Earl Gillum.
