Local officials are reporting the death of a motorist whose vehicle drove off the boat ramp into Lake Granbury at the Brazos River Authority’s DeCordova Bend Park Tuesday evening, Oct. 11.

The deceased person’s name, age and place of residence have not not been released, although one official stated that the next-of-kin have been notified. The incident is being investigated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials in the lead role. A news release emailed to the Hood County News late Thursday afternoon from the TPWD states that its Law Enforcement Division confirmed that it "appears to be a suicide."

Other agencies also responded to the call, which came in to dispatchers at approximately 8 p.m.

“Deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded, as an agency assist, for an incident at the (DeCordova Bend Park) involving a vehicle that was seen driving at a high rate of speed off the boat ramp and into the water with nobody reportedly getting out of the vehicle,” Hood County Lt. Joshua Lane stated in an email in response to an information request from the Hood County News. “Deputies, BRA, game warden, VFD (volunteer fire departments) and EMS (personnel responded) and upon arriving on scene found a vehicle in the water about 50-70 yards from the boat ramp. VFD divers eventually entered the water and found a single male occupant in the vehicle who was pronounced deceased on scene.”
