A small airplane that lost power and went down on West Pearl Street near Granbury High School late Monday (July 18) morning had two men on board, both from Tolar, but there were no injuries, according to officials.

DPS Sgt. Richard Hunter stated in an email to the HCN that troopers were notified at approximately 11 a.m. of a “downed aircraft” near the Granbury (Regional) Airport on Pearl Street.

“Preliminary information indicates a single engine, fixed wing aircraft was departing Granbury (Regional) airport when it lost power,” Hunter stated.

The pilot, 67-year-old James Winston Jr., “attempted to land the aircraft on Pearl Street but the landing gear failed and the aircraft received some damage as a result,” Hunter continued, adding that the passenger aboard the aircraft was Austin Winston, age 26.

Granbury Police Department was contacted by the HCN first for information about the incident, and Lt. Russell Grizzard noted that the plane was “leaking fuel.” At the time, the lieutenant stated that traffic coming off of Howard Clemmons Drive was “being directed eastbound on Pearl.”

Hunter noted that the FAA was notified and will be conducting the investigation.
