Ronald “Ron” Ray Cleaver, a very devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at 80 years of age.

Visitation is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ron was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Verdella and Ottovon Cleaver. The family moved to Texas where he attended and graduated from Haltom High School in 1963. He went on to attend Tarrant County Junior College where he obtained an associate degree in applied science for law enforcement.

Ron dedicated his life to serving and protecting people. He was a reserve officer in Keller, then joined the Richland Hills Police force in 1970. He then started at DFW Airport working for its Department of Public Safety in 1974. He did it all: patrol, motorcycle officer and ending with the K-9 unit. He loved animals and they loved him. He retired in 2007 with 33 years of service.

Ron’s passion was always about cars. He had quite a collection over the years with a photo album chronologically arranged to prove it — from racing around with the guys in high school to showing the classics in many car shows, winning several trophies, to participating in rod runs.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Verdella and Ottovon Cleaver, brother Gerald Cleaver and sister, JoAnn Cleaver Sharitz.

Ron leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Cecille; daughter Lana and her husband Randy Hood; granddaughter Haley Johnson and her husband Ryan Johnson; grandson Dakota Duty and his girlfriend Megan Campbell, great-grandson Maverick Johnson and a niece, Vicki Sharitz Grinder. He also leaves behind many, many life-long friends.
