Sheriff: Deputies searching for suspect after high-speed vehicle chase

A 37-year-old Fort Worth resident — already wanted on one felony warrant — may have earned another when he evaded deputies Tuesday morning (June 14) with a high-speed chase before ditching his vehicle and fleeing on foot, according to Hood County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Johnny Rose.

Rose told the HCN that officers are actively looking for the man, Nicholas Brandon Riggs, who abandoned the red Ford dually pickup in a brushy area after leading deputies on a chase from the Acton Sonic drive-in to an area on Massey Road, south of Fall Creek Highway. The chase covered approximately six or seven miles in all, Rose estimated.

Evading arrest in a motor vehicle is a third-degree felony offense, Rose noted.

Riggs was wanted on a second-degree felony warrant (burglary of a habitation, dated May 26), Rose said, when he was spotted driving near the intersection of Fall Creek Highway and Acton Highway.

Rose stated in a follow-up, via email, that deputies attempted a traffic stop at the 5400 block of Acton Highway, but “Riggs refused to stop and drove around a deputy trying to block an exit at a local restaurant. During the suspect’s evasive move a deputy ran on to a large landscaping rock he did not see and ended up ‘stuck like chuck’. The other deputy was able to pursue Riggs to the 8700 block of Massey Road where Riggs drove through multiple gates and fences and was able to elude capture.

“Riggs’ Ford F350 was eventually located at the end of Three Creek Court where it was towed to the Sheriff’s Office. Riggs is still on the loose and if anyone has information on his whereabouts (they) should call Crime Stoppers or 911 to report his location.”
