The skies opened up a gullywasher for last year's July 4th Hometown Parade, but the rain didn't dampen Hood County's patriotic pride.
For those who want to participate in the chamber’s Fourth of July Hometown Celebration as a vendor or a parade entrant, time’s a-wastin’.
Food vendor spaces have already sold out, and only a few arts and crafts vendor spaces remain.
As for the parade, a beloved annual event, half the spaces are filled.
Independence Day is on a Monday this year, which means a three-day holiday weekend.
This year’s celebration theme is “With Liberty & Justice for All.”
Those who want to sign up as an arts and crafts vendor or as a participant in the Hometown Fourth of July Parade can do so through the chamber’s website, granburychamber.com. They can also call 817-573-1622 or email info@granburychamber.com.
The Fourth of July celebration in Granbury is always a big deal. In addition to being popular with locals, it draws more than 50,000 tourists, according to the chamber.
The fun will kick off on Saturday, July 2, with vendors on the square open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Those same hours will apply to Sunday, July 3.
The parade will take place on Monday, July 4.
The procession will get underway at 10 a.m., traveling from Granbury High School down Pearl Street and winding around the square, turning left on Crockett Street, and left on Bridge Street.
Vendors will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
The fireworks spectacular will be that night (Monday, July 4), beginning around 9:45 p.m.
The crew from Extreme Pyrotechnics works from a location near Pearl Street/Business 377, but the colorful bursts can be seen throughout much of the county.
That weekend, the Granbury Theatre Company will continue its performances of West Side Story at the historic Granbury Opera House. The show runs through July 10.
