The Community Calendar is a free listing in the Hood County News to inform readers of programs, special meetings, and nonprofit events. The event should be open to the public and free to attend. Email the who, what, when and where. Include the meeting location and a street address for the location. The topic for the meeting, program or guest speaker must be included. Saturday, Oct. 14

Bentwater Craft Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1800 West Emerald Bend Court with an onsite food truck from the Local Cafe.

Thursday, Oct. 19

After operating for 17 years, the Bridge Street History Center, 319 E. Bridge St., will celebrate their ongoing educational programs with a ribbon cutting event. The museum doors will open at 3 p.m. with the ribbon cutting commencing at 4 p.m.

Hood County Democrat Club will meet Thursday, Oct. 19, at Panchito Mexican Restaurant, 506 Weatherford Highway, Granbury 76049. Dinner at 6 pm, meeting begins at 7 pm.

Saturday, Oct. 21

Christian Brothers Automotive, 3809 E. Hwy 377, will be partnering with several local churches to offer free oil changes to single moms and widows in need on Saturday, Oct. 21st from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, please call 817-573-3911.

First Christian Church invites the community to celebrate their 150th anniversary during a two-day celebration beginning at 10 a.m. to approximately 12:15 p.m. at the Langdon Center Concert Hall, 308 E Bridge St. — the original location of First Christian Church. The service will feature former ministers, and a barbecue luncheon with speakers will follow. Saturday’s program features Dan Vanderburg speaking on the early history of Hood County and the city of Granbury. The founding families of the church in 1873 will be highlighted. Marc Istook, a direct descendant of Randolph Clark, will speak on the history of the Clark family and AddRan College. The Music Ministry will be leading the attendees with hymn singing. Acton Nature Center. Join us Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a free, family-friendly celebration of the Monarch butterfly migration at the Acton Nature Center, 6900 Smoky Hill Court in Granbury. Learn how and why we tag Monarchs, their incredible life cycle and migration, citizen science projects, how to create your own Monarch Waystation and butterfly habitat, and more!  Special activities for children include face painting, a caterpillar craft, and a DIY butterfly water fountain, all offered by Rio Brazos Chapter volunteers from the Texas Master Naturalist program.  https://txmn.org/rbc/

Rancho Brazos Community Center’s 2nd Annual Rancho Gala at Lake Granbury Conference Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Event includes live entertainment, a catered meal, a cash bar, and a silent and live auction. Starting a New Life is a grief support group for those who have lost a loved one through death. This includes the loss of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, or close friend. For the past 26 years, this group has helped people work through their grief process. If you, or someone you know, is suffering from the loss of a loved one, come or bring them to our next session.
