Brownies and carrot cake are fine for a run-of-the mill fundraiser, but the Tolar Education Foundation didn’t raise more than $200,000 by thinking inside the Betty Crocker box.
Since becoming an LLC in 2013, the organization has upped its game, funding scholarships and grants to benefit students in the Tolar Independent School District.
This year’s spring fundraiser is officially on the calendar, and it’s probably guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser, especially for fans of The Texas Music Scene.
Deryl Dodd, who has opened for Garth Brooks, is set to perform, and so are Clayton Landua and Phil Hamilton.
Forty bucks will get you some quality live entertainment, a plate of fried fish, hush puppies, and sides prepared by a hometown team of volunteer cooks, and feeling that you did something good for kids.
The “Taste of Tolar” fundraiser (it’s still called that, even though it’s not a bake sale anymore) will take place from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
The adults-only event will be held at LC Ranch wedding and events venue located at 4610 Shaw Road.
Beer and wine will be sold to those over 21. Free iced tea and water will be available.
There will be a live auction and a silent auction.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at tolareducationfoundation.com.
VIP sponsorships are also available. The $1,000 cost covers meals and two drink tickets each for a table of eight.
Payments made by check to the Tolar Education Foundation can be mailed to P.O. Box 432, Tolar, Texas 76476.
Since the event is a fundraiser, no refunds will be issued if it is canceled due to weather.
The Tolar Education Foundation, or TEF, partners with the community to provide resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning, and maximize innovative learning opportunities for students in Tolar ISD.
Generous community partners include Meyer’s Kwik Stop and Hill City Chop House as well as businesses and individuals who donate items for gift baskets and auctions.
Wendy Bonnell, a member of the TEF board and the Tolar School Board, said that a TEF grant recently funded a Quest subscription for Tolar Junior High School. She said the subscription combines online and traditional game pieces and that students have to work together to problem solve.
