USS Arizona Dedication & Remembrance Ceremony

Posted

The much-anticipated new USS Arizona site addition in the Military Section of Memorial Lane in the Jim Burks Firefighters Park was unveiled on December 7th. The Friends of Memorial Lane and the City of Granbury's USS Arizona Dedication & Remembrance Ceremony organized the event. Thanks to the efforts of Stan and Kay Wasielewski, Friends of Memorial Lane received a piece of the ship's hull from the USS Arizona. This piece will be permanently displayed in a prominent spot at Granbury City Hall, safe from the elements.

The ceremony began with a welcome from the Chair of Friends Of Memorial Lane, Laura Fisher, followed by a prayer from Hood County Judge Ron Masingill. Sons Of The American Revolution performed the Presentation of Colors, and Mayor Jim Jarratt recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Senator Brian Birdwell issued the State Proclamation. Stan and Kay Wasielewski then performed the Unveiling Of Bronze. Mike Donnelly followed with the Reading Of Documentation Of Donation. The Tolar High School Band delivered exemplary performances of Tears Of Arizona, Star Spangled Banner, and TAPS. Joe And Mary Mullen did Lowering Of Flag honors before Mike Loter's closing prayer.

Finally, Friends Of Memorial Lane founding board member Julia Pannell invited attendees to the site and take photos.
