Lady Pirate golfer Mason Lewis placed seventh at the UIL state golf tournament on May 16-17, 2022, at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
The GHS senior shot 150 (77-73) over the two-day tourney to finish in a four-way tie for seventh among Class 5A competitors.
Lewis captured the state title last year and was later named the 2020-21 Golf Athlete of the Year for Class 5A and 6A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
She advanced individually from the Region I-5A tournament on April 20-21 as the first-place winner. The regional team from Granbury placed seventh also included Namsuk Appakam, Akyah Ditto, Presley Grizzell, and Haven Riddle.
On March 31-April 1 in Azle, the varsity squad qualified for regionals after placing second at the district tourney. Lewis was district champion after placing first individually.
