More records fall as GHS qualifies nine for regional track;

Rattlers pitching perfect again

Posted

Once again, the Granbury Pirates set new school marks in qualifying seven athletes for this weekend’s Class 5A Region I Track Meet in Lubbock.

With two Lady Pirates, Kate Hamlin and Ella Garner, also qualifying, that’s nine from the program who will be seeking berths at state May 2-4 in Austin. The top two in each event, along with the best third-place finisher in each event across all regions, earn a berth.

Elijah Johnston was involved in two school records at this past weekend’s 5/6-5A Area Meet in Fort Worth. He broke his own record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.32 seconds. He also ran a leg (along with Kaleb Johnston, Michael Grant and Jadon Rogers) of the 4x100 relay that clocked a 41.65.

Also setting a record at area was Jaxon Glenn in the 3200, posting a time of 9:44.16.

“This is the kind of group that really loves track and field. You get a bunch of kids who love track and work hard and just build on it,” Pirates coach Jody Brown said.
