GISD board extends superintendent’s contract

The Granbury School Board of Trustees voted at its regular meeting on Monday, June 13 to extend Superintendent Jeremy Glenn’s contract by one year.

The vote was unanimous among all trustees who were present. Courtney Gore was absent.

School Board president Barbara Townsend said that the board had spent a month reviewing Glenn’s performance.

“The board as a whole is very pleased with his work,” she said.

Trustees scored Glenn on four goals: growth in academics, management of COVID-related issues, forward movement of the G2025 strategic plan and the rollout of the proposed bond issue.

“It failed,” she said of the recent bond vote, “but we learned a lot, and we’re going to come back stronger and we listened.”

Mark Jackson made the motion to extend Glenn’s contract and the motion was seconded by Barbara Herrington.

Townsend later emailed the Hood County News a statement about the contract extension.

“GISD test scores reflect significant academic growth on all campuses in all disciplines,” she wrote. “We were able to keep all campuses open, even during a spike in COVID numbers both statewide and nationally. Our district remains on track with all G2025 goals and while our bond proposal failed, we learned valuable information regarding what our community wants and values. We will use this knowledge to create another bond package that will be more acceptable to the voters and meet our growth needs.”

According to Townsend, Glenn requested that the board not consider giving him a raise “and instead use that money in other areas.”

Glenn told the HCN that he is “looking forward to continuing to serve with our School Board to make GISD an education destination.”
