Granbury MCJROTC defeats Eldorado MCJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Granbury MCJROTC defeated Eldorado MCJROTC 2452.7 to 2389.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. Granbury MCJROTC was led by Caroline Martin  who shot a 619.2. The remaining contributing members were Julia Czernik, Sunnee Schumann, and Ashton Arlington. They are from Granbury, TX, and are coached by LtCol Scott Casey.

Granbury MCJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in second place. Within the Jrotc Conference they are in first place. They have a 4 - 0 record.

Shooting their highest team score of the season Eldorado MCJROTC was led by Rory Claussen who shot a 608.5. The remaining contributing members were Carter Paas, Haylie Garcia, and Griffin Burak. Eldorado MCJROTC is from Alburquerque, NM, and is coached by James Koerber.

Eldorado MCJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fifth place. Within the Jrotc Conference they are in second place. They have a 2 - 3 record.

Next up Granbury MCJROTC will compete against Abraham Lincoln AJROTC from Denver, CO. Abraham Lincoln AJROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record. While Eldorado MCJROTC will compete against Camden County NJROTC from Kingsland, GA. Camden County NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.

The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.

The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 60 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
