Granbury MCJROTC defeats Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club

Granbury MCJROTC defeated Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club 2441.8 to 2392.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Granbury MCJROTC was led by Caroline Martin  who shot a 616.8. The remaining contributing members were Ashton Arlington, Sunnee Schumann, and Julia Czernik. They are from Granbury, TX, and are coached by LtCol Scott Casey.

Granbury MCJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in second place. Within the Jrotc Conference they are in first place. They have a 3 - 0 record.

Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club was led by Liam Tegeler who shot a 605.8. The remaining contributing members were Karlie Lynn, Trey Myers, and George Kuhne. Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club is from Everett, PA, and is coached by George Kuhne.

Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fourth place. They have a 2 - 1 record.

Next up Granbury MCJROTC will compete against Eldorado MCJROTC from Alburquerque, NM. Eldorado MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record. While Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club will compete against Lafayette Gun Club from Yorktown, VA. Lafayette Gun Club currently has a 3 - 0 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.

The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.

The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 60 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
