While few things in this world are 100% certain, Lipan victories in the opening round of the basketball playoffs are about as close as it gets.

And, suffice to say, the Lady Indians will not likely be getting any Valentine’s cards from the folks at Italy High School after downing the Lady Gladiators 82-21 in their Class 2A Region II bi-district basketball game Tuesday in Godley.

The Lady Indians, ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 2A, improved to 29-3 and will play 23rd-ranked Cisco (26-6) in the second round Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Eastland High School. Italy ended its season at 11-22.

Lipan shot 60% from the field (34-of-57), including 52% (11-of-21) from 3-point range. They also forced 33 turnovers, 22 of which came from steals.

Four Lady Indians scored in double figures, led by Hanna Gaylor with 16 points and four steals. Chelsea Lott scored 14 with four rebounds, five assists and four steals and Taylor Branson had 13 points and five steals.

Also, Madison Harrison added 10 points, Trinity Benitez scored eight and Lynsey Little delivered five assists.
