Granbury resident and former Hood County Judge candidate Mark Burton Shackelford was arrested at his residence in Nassau Bay at 6:44 p.m. on Nov. 3, on a misdemeanor Class A charge of deadly conduct (Assault, other weapon).
According to Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds, the incident resulted in Shackelford “not getting along with his neighbors” and stemmed from a previous occurrence where his neighbor rode by his house on a bike and was bitten by “Shackelford’s dog.”
“In this world we live in, my sheriff deputies can’t be everywhere they need to be all the time, so it is very important to get along with your neighbors and watch each other's backs,” Deeds said in an email to the HCN on Nov. 6. “Apparently, they do not all get along in that neighborhood.”
Shackelford previously ran against current Hood County Judge Ron Massingill in the November 2022 election, with Massingill receiving 4,187 votes and Shackelford receiving 2,706.
After being booked into the Hood County Jail at 11:28 p.m. on Saturday, Shackelford made a bond of $2,500 on Sunday morning, according to Deeds.
