Lady Rattlers win bi-district title with 13-2 blowout of Meridian

Posted

GLEN ROSE – Tolar High School freshman Senne Imel sent Meridian a big message with a first-inning home run, and the Lady Rattlers blew out Meridian in a 13-2 bi-district softball championship victory Thursday that ended in the fifth inning on the 10-run mercy rule.

Tolar exploded for 10 hits and had only one fielding error as the Lady Rattlers scored in every inning to pile up the runs.

Imel drove in two more runs with a double in the second inning, scoring Ava LeCluyse and Courtlynd Hogan, to build the lead to 3-0.

Meridian scored its only runs in the third inning to tighten it up at 3-2, but Tolar’s bats kept thumping. The Lady Rattlers got the two runs back in the bottom of the third, then began to run away with the game with a five-run fourth.

“Everyone was a part of this win,” Tolar head coach Christy Collie said. “We got big clutch hits. Senne hit a home run in her first at-bat, and Ava, Baili (Deaver), Hope (Grivette), Allyson (Dobbs) and Makayla (Moore) all hit the ball well.”

Imel was 3-for-4 at the plate and generated three RBI, while Moore matched that total while getting two hits in her three at-bats.

Sophomore right-hander Reese Tryon gave the Lady Rattlers another big game from the circle as she allowed only two hits and punched out an even dozen batters. She got ahead of 12 of the 20 batters she faced with first-pitch strikes.

Adding to Tolar’s hits total were Deaver, Grivette, Tryon, Dobbs, and LeCluyse, with one hit each. The Lady Rattlers got RBI from Deaver (2) and Tryon and Grivette with one apiece.
