Rattlers dominate Bulldogs, go 2-1 in district

Posted

Five Tolar players got into the scoring act in the Rattlers’ 44-8 dusting of depleted Hamilton Friday night in Tolar.

The Rattlers improved to 2-1 in district and 2-5 on the season. Hamilton fell to 2-2 in district.

Jackson LeCluyse threw five touchdown passes, two to Macaine Tucker, one to Brandon Click and one to Wyatt Jones. Tucker booted all six PATs.

Hamilton, without its quarterback and others due to COVID-19, had no passing game. The Bulldogs, in fact, didn’t even attempt a pass.

Hamilton rushed for 133 yards, but Tolar rushed for 156 and passed for 143 for 299 total yards.

Tolar Head Coach Jeremy Mullins said he doesn’t wish COVID-19 on anyone.

“I hate it for him (the QB) and Hamilton, but that’s kinda the place we’re at now,” he said.

“Hats off to our kids doing what they had to do to get the win.”

Tolar lit the scoreboard early in the first quarter on a 13-yard pass from LeCluyse to Tucker. Jones was LeCluyse’s next TD target, on a 4-yard toss late in the opening quarter.

The Tolar defense then put points on the board when Brandon Click tackled a Bulldog runner for a safety late in the first period.

The Rattlers, leading 16-0 at the end of the quarter, added two more touchdowns in the second period for a comfortable 30-0 lead.

The second-quarter scores came on a 5-yard pass from LeCluyse to Keaton Morrison and 12-yard toss from LeCluyse to Click.

Hamilton got on the board early in the fourth quarter on a 52-yard jaunt and conversion run.

Tolar, leading 30-8, scored two more TDs in the fourth quarter via a 28-yard LeCluyse-to-Tucker pass and 7-yard Morrison run.

LeCluyse enjoyed a stellar night, hitting 15 of 19 passes for 143 yards and no interceptions.

Tolar travels to Rio Vista Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Rio Vista has a dandy quarterback with good receivers and running backs, Mullins said.

“It seems like everyone in our district has a good quarterback,” the coach said.

A win would put the Rattlers in the driver’s seat for the playoffs with only two games left. The top four teams advance.
