A free program that can assist Hood County residents with tax preparation officially returns Monday, Feb. 5. 

Granbury Care Center spiced up the lives of its residents Friday, Jan. 12, as it was awarded first place during the nursing home’s first-ever chili cookoff event.

Hood County is seeing illegal dumping happening all over and is attempting to slow down the levels of littering. Illegal dumping is defined under the Texas Constitution as litter dumped anywhere other than in an approved solid waste site.

The North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department is asking the public to help with donations for future estimated projects and upcoming fundraisers in 2024.

The Hood County Commissioners Court approved the purchase of new apparatuses and radios for the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department, reimbursed Granbury VFD for the purchase of its tanker, and approved the donation of funds to Texas EMS to be used toward the purchase of an ambulance during a regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 9.

Hood County is gearing up for its 69th annual Junior Livestock Show that will take place Jan. 9 through the 13, put on by the Hood County Junior Livestock Raisers Association. The free five-day event at the Reunion Grounds gives students from around the county the chance to show off their skills from working directly with animals to all kinds of knowledge of livestock identification and much more.

The Hood County Clerk’s Office (HCCO) was presented with a repeat notable honor Dec. 21, earning the Five Star Award for 2023 by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The Granbury Volunteer Fire Department has a fire academy that hosts a nine-week training program both in the spring and fall that helps area firefighters become more well-rounded. On Nov. 11, 22 new firefighters successfully graduated from the Granbury Fire Academy. The diverse group of trainees represented fire departments from Adell-Whitt, Cresson, DeCordova, Granbury, Morgan Mill and Somervell County.

Kolton Krottinger, a Granbury resident and Navy veteran, has created a group to help and support local entrepreneurs in Hood County. Krottinger suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety from his service.
